WORKSHOP: TAGATA MOANA

TAGATA MOANA is a program of workshops and events presented at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. This program highlights artists with connections to the Moana Oceania region, and it supports audiences to build greater connections to its art and culture.

The program is supported by Create NSW and is presented alongside the exhibition 'TE RŪMA MOENGA / THE MATTRESS ROOM (MEMORY FOAM)' by Tyrone Te Waa.

All events are FREE but RSVP is required as some program have very limited spaces.

SEPTEMBER

  • Cook Islands Tivaevae Workshop (Artistic applique quilting) in the Turbine Hall at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre
  • Lalaga sia tuitui (Mariposa stitch) butterfly stitch & basic weaving techniques (Niue) in the Turbine Hall at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre
  • Weaving Workshop – ‘Fetu’-Stars Making’ Stars with box strap in the Turbine Hall at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre
  • BODY PASIFIKA: on and off the field at Liverpool Civic Tower Council Chambers, Level 1, 50 Scott Street, Liverpool

    • More information: This project discusses the ways art and sport can come together in support of a more rounded life for young people.The day will be hosted by Leo Tanoi (Creative Producer/Curator and ex-National Rugby League Kiwi & Samoan International) and Nigel Vagana (ex-NRL Education and welfare Manager). It will include a number of workshops which share practical tips and ideas to help young people become leaders on and off the field. A highlight will include a discussion of the history, impact and relevance of ‘Body Pacifica,’ which was an award-winning exhibition that brought together NRL stars and visual art. CLUB WELD ATTITUDE AT TAGATA MOANA

Club Weld Attitude at TAGATA MOANA is a series of free music-making workshops run at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre for Pasifika musicians with autism.

Club Weld changes perceptions around the quality of work by artists with disability by providing recording, distribution, broadcast and performance opportunities for talented neurodiverse musicians.

The program increases participation in mainstream culture, promotes social inclusion and access, explores income streams and career pathways and enhances well-being.

The program runs over three Saturdays in October (5th, 12th and 19th). What the participants received:

  • x3 Saturday workshops
  • One-on-one with a facilitator in the genre your choice
  • Opportunity to harness your unique expression and perspective
  • Contribute your music to contemporary culture
