Noelene Lucas’ exhibition, Atlas of Water: the Georges River, examines the Georges River, and six other rivers from around the world in a multimedia installation using video, sound, image and text.
Noelene has been travelling the world for the past nine years, collecting images and video of rivers as a way to create an inventory of the rivers of the world. The Georges River is now a part of this inventory.
The Georges River was once a major transport route from Liverpool to the coast and central Sydney and an integral part of Liverpool’s colonial economic development.
The exhibition comprises of three video projections: one of the river’s flow, a second of the river’s edge and the third featuring the world’s other rivers.
Atlas of the Water: the Georges River is an exploration of the boundaries between nature and culture prompting us to reflect more critically on our use of water.
After viewing the exhibition, you can see the George’s River, located just 30 metres from the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.
